Malayattoor |
Malayattoor is the most famous Christian pilgrim center of Kerala.It is located on the side of the river Periyar.
There is a famous church of St.Thomas-one of the disciples of Jesus Christ in Kurisumudi.It was built in 1893, almost 1269 foot firm the sea level. Pilgrims climb the hill by foot to receive the blessings and cure.
It takes almost 1.5 hrs to climb, the 3 km way upto the hill.There is a well here ,believed to have created by miracle by the Apostle .Pilgrims believe that the water in this well has great curing power.
There is another church called Thazathe Palli (the church below) built in AD 900 located near the first one. The main views here are the life size statue of St.Thomas and the imprint of the feet of the Apostle.
There is place called Sannidhi where Piyatha sculpture is molded at the top. |
