Wayanad District forms the southern top of the Deccan plateau with the majestic Western Ghats rendering a geographic glory. The lofty ridges of the mountain ranges interspersed with dense forest, deep valleys and a rugged terrain intensifies the charm of this location. The sanctuary is home to animals of the order of bison, wild dogs, civet cat, panthers, tigers and elephants which can be a delight for the adventure tourists. Wayanad, showcases a vast variety of architectural and natural marvels too, one of the significant being the attractions at the Edakkal cave treasure.
A rich variety of trees including Teak, Grevelia,Eucalyptus and South Indian deciduous trees peculiar to the region's flora are profusely present in the Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary which stuns tourists both of domestic and international origin.
Sultan Bathery and Mananthavadi are two towns in Wayanad which a tourist can utilize as halting places. There is a Government Rest House in the area in addition to several other private guest houses to facilitate comfortable accommodation to visitors. |
